Evan AuCoin, known for his rich storytelling and deeply authentic sound. Blending folk, country, blues, and traditional Newfoundland influences, AuCoin delivers songs that resonate with honesty and emotional depth, whether in stripped-down acoustic moments or soaring full-bodied arrangements.
Stef Benac is a wildcard songwriter. She's the founder of Halifax folk duo, Factory Girls. She's also the head witch and Rock n' Roll wailer of Bring Me Sleep. You never know if she'll sing you a lullaby, a cheatin' country song, a spooky Appalachian number, or a raspy rock tune. She can't be tamed and she can't stick to one genre or mood for too long. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll contemplate the meaning of life. No matter what the weather, she'll make sure you leave the show feeling fully entertained and well-loved.
Logan Edward MacKay is a singer-songwriter from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Logan has found a sweet spot between the reflective truth within songwriting and an alternative edge. His music conveys the harsh but honest realities of life, drafting out its blisses and burdens while capturing the feelings of grief, doubt and love.
Claire Porter - Folk Night at the Ship
Claire Porter is performing at the historic Folk Night at the Ship, hosted by Quidi Vidi Brewery!
Double-nominated at the 2026 East Coast Music Awards for Jazz Release of the Year and Fusion Release of the Year, and nominated as MusicNL’s Alternative Artist of the Year (2024), Newfoundland dynamo Claire Porter is an onstage tour de force. After years honing her songcraft in Montreal, she now brings her dry wit and meticulous musicianship to intimate venues from Atlantic Canada to Ontario, sharing songs about love, tiramisu, and detritivores. Described as having the prowess and punch of Judy Garland with the lyrical grit of Tom Waits, Porter delivers performances that are as incisive as they are unforgettable.
Claire Porter Vinyl Release Show at Fred's Records
On Sunday, December 7th at 4:00 PM, Newfoundland alt-folk auteur Claire Porter brings her award nominated debut album Time Alone to vinyl with a free, intimate release show at Fred’s Records on Duckworth Street.
A slow-burning, salt-stained collection of songs, Time Alone arrived in 2024 and quietly detonated across Atlantic Canada’s music scene. The record earned Porter a reputation for crafting songs that feel unsettling, tender, and almost dangerously honest.
Fresh off a tour through Ontario and Quebec, Porter returns home to St. John’s with the same haunting theatricality that led Time Alone to a MusicNL nomination for Alternative Artist of the Year (2024). Known for her stark, magnetic vocals and slow-burn emotional intensity, Porter’s music has drawn visceral reactions from critics:
“It’s not often I hear a single that makes my skin itch.” — Heather Barrett, CBC
“My god, that is so relentlessly depressing… I’m truthfully in awe. That’s next level.”— Dale Conway, CHMR
“Few sing as purely and unusually as Claire Porter… a mature and talented artist… a truly outstanding performer.” — Helena Lynch, Voxwave Magazine
For this one-day-only event, Porter will perform the album with her Stouts:
Joe Tucker (lead guitar), Liam Peacock (keys), Kieran Dooley (bass), and Xander Pierson (drums). Together, they’ll stretch the album’s cinematic tension into something raw, physical, and stranger in all the right ways.
Fans will also have first access to a limited run of Time Alone vinyl, including exclusive red vinyl, standard black vinyl, CDs, and new t-shirts featuring artwork drawn by Porter herself and screen-printed by UFO Screen Printing. Supplies are extremely limited.
Time Alone has been praised for its stark storytelling, off-kilter beauty, and Porter’s unmistakable voice—brooding, intelligent, and impossibly intimate. The vinyl release marks a new chapter for an album already carving out its own quiet cult following.

“My god, that is so relentlessly depressing. Her tone, the space. I’m truthfully in awe. That’s next level.” Dale Conway, CHMR
“Few sing as purely and unusually as Claire Porter. It’s enough to hear her voice, phrasing, accents, melodic clarity, and the seriousness of her song themes to realize: she’s a truly outstanding performer! Although “Time Alone” is technically her debut album, it leaves the impression of a solid work from a mature and talented artist. All that remains is to celebrate the Canadian music scene and wish Claire Porter continued success.” Helena Lynch, Voxwave Magazine

Claire Porter & the Stouts + The Dandelion Few + Midnight Watch
At the end of May, with spring in the air, come down to the Ship Inn on Duckworth St in sunny funny Newfoundland for a full night of modern folk, country, and creativity.
We have The Dandelion Few (with a supporting band) who recently released ‘Ovv Vrese & Suond’, an album that talks about the courage you’ve had after a few pints or the polyester clothes cool kids wear around in any downtown. [https://www.thedandelionfew.com/music]
We have Midnight Watch - who you might know from being on the top of Fred’s best selling albums list with their album ‘Ghost Hours’. They’re poppy, they’re weird, they named their whole album after unpaid overtime and they write songs about being better men. What more could you want? [https://midnightwatch.bandcamp.com]
And then there’s Claire Porter & the Stouts (that’s me!). I’m playing with a four piece this time, and I am just elated to celebrate the turning of the month with you all. It’s a full band full evening that’s going to be full of swing!
$20 in advance, $25 at the door! Buy tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/claire-porter-the-stouts-the-dandelion-few-midnight-watch-the-ship-tickets-1353943945789?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl
