East Coast Voices at Live! On Elgin
Please join us for an evening celebrating East Coast Voices [tickets here]
Featuring three solo modern interpretations of Celtic inspiration from decendants of the legacy MacIsaac family from Nova Scotia!
Alexis MacIsaac
Ellen MacIsaac
Claire Porter
A Newfoundland dynamo, who spent years honing her songcraft in Montreal, Claire has taken her music to intimate venues across Atlantic Canada, sharing her songs about love, tiramisu and detritivores with audiences at festivals, conferences and folk clubs. Described as having the prowess and punch of Judy Garland mixed with the lyrical grit of Tom Waits, Claire is an on-stage tour de force, infusing her dry wit and meticulous musicianship into every note. Claire Porter was nominated as Alternative Artist of the Year with MusicNL.
Alexis MacIsaac and Calum MacKenzie are a wife and husband duo who have established a unique musical partnership that combines Cape Breton piano playing with a modern approach to Celtic fiddle. Their debut album, The Bay Street Sessions, is a compilation of original and traditional compositions and arrangements, and secured them a 2017 Canadian Folk Music Award nomination for traditional instrumental group of the year and a 2018 East Coast Music Awards Nomination for Roots/Traditional Recording of the Year.
Ellen MacIsaac received her PhD in Ethnomusicology at University College Dublin, Ireland, with a specialization in the traditional singing style and repertoire in
Irish and English. Since returning to Canada, she has been involved in traditional singing in Ottawa, giving guest lectures, performing locally and further afield. She is a member of the Rideau Ramblers, who play traditional songs and tunes from Ireland, Scotland and the Ottawa Valley. She is an adjunct professor and vocal instructor in Celtic-style singing in the Music department at Carleton University. She created the Ottawa Celtic Choir in 2007, acts as its musical director, and
regularly arranges Celtic music for the choir.

Claire Porter & the Stouts + The Dandelion Few + Midnight Watch
At the end of May, with spring in the air, come down to the Ship Inn on Duckworth St in sunny funny Newfoundland for a full night of modern folk, country, and creativity.
We have The Dandelion Few (with a supporting band) who recently released ‘Ovv Vrese & Suond’, an album that talks about the courage you’ve had after a few pints or the polyester clothes cool kids wear around in any downtown. [https://www.thedandelionfew.com/music]
We have Midnight Watch - who you might know from being on the top of Fred’s best selling albums list with their album ‘Ghost Hours’. They’re poppy, they’re weird, they named their whole album after unpaid overtime and they write songs about being better men. What more could you want? [https://midnightwatch.bandcamp.com]
And then there’s Claire Porter & the Stouts (that’s me!). I’m playing with a four piece this time, and I am just elated to celebrate the turning of the month with you all. It’s a full band full evening that’s going to be full of swing!
$20 in advance, $25 at the door! Buy tickets here: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/claire-porter-the-stouts-the-dandelion-few-midnight-watch-the-ship-tickets-1353943945789?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl
